Description

Pharmacists play an integral role in the management of depression and anxiety as part of a multidisciplinary approach. Beyond clinical advice, pharmacists can also assist in the process of screening through recognition of symptoms, monitoring of progress whilst on medication between doctor visits and advising on non-pharmacological approaches to managing depression and anxiety. This session will discuss the multiple roles pharmacists can play in the management of depression and anxiety.


At the end of this session, you will be able to:

1. Review new and emerging evidence regarding the management of depression and anxiety, including discussions on pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches
2. Develop tailored management plans for depression and anxiety, factoring in medication profile, patient factors, andpatient preference.
3. Describe approaches to starting, monitoring, adjusting and discontinuing management of depression and anxiety
4. Describe the essential role of pharmacists as part of a multidisciplinary approach to management of depression and anxiety, including: screening, collaborating with doctors regarding therapeutic dosages and monitoring, educatingpatients about their condition and medications (dose, duration, adverse effects) to enhance adherence, advising on non-pharmacological approaches (e.g. e-Mental health tools)
